Pokémon Emerald: Son’s Tale

I’m going to be playing Pokémon Emerald “Hard Mode”, following a set of rules based on the Nuzlocke ruleset. I will be drawing a comic strip to chronicle my adventure.

The Nuzlocke Challenge is the practice of playing through a Pokémon game with a strict set of rules.
The rules vary from version to version so I’ve picked the ones that seem best:

-If a Pokemon in your party faints, you must release it.
-Every time you reach a new route, cave, etc., you must catch the very first Pokemon you see, regardless of your current number of party members. The Pokemon may sit within the box for an indeterminate amount of time as a backup.
-If you fail to catch the first Pokemon you see, either via it fleeing, knocking it out, or having no Pokeballs, you may not catch another. Tough shit.
-This means you can not catch a pokemon in a route you were in before you could catch pokemon. So no route 1, you were there before you had pokeballs.
-If a town you go to contains a body of water or a gift, pokemon like Bill’s Eevee in G/S/C/HG/SS, that may be considered a Pokemon of a new area.
-You must nickname your pokemon so there is some sort of attachment. Each pokemon is a best friend to you, to see them die is heartbreaking.
-If your entire party faints, they all must be thrown away. If you have a pokemon left in a box somewhere, you may continue, otherwise you must start your game over.
-You are, under no circumstance, allowed to get a second pokemon from any given area.
-You are, under no circumstance, allowed to use items outside of battle. If you were poisoned on your last turn of the battle, you better hope to god there is a pokemon center nearby.
-You may not switch out before the enemy trainer sends in a new Pokemon.
-You are not allowed to capture legendaries.
-You can not catch a Pokémon you already own; but you can ignore duplicates and catch the second Pokémon in that route.

Thic comic has no Griffons in it.

Final Major Project, Year Two.

Right!
Over the past few months I have been working on a very big project in college.
I wrote the project brief myself, it can be downloaded here if you’re interested.
The basic overview is this;
I, as you know, am a huge fan of vector art and create a lot of it.
Vectors are fantastic because you can make them any size without losing quality as you resize them.
With this in mind; bugs are small! If I vector bugs and make them big, that’s just…kinda dumb really, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Anyways it turned out very well!
I started off with a practice vector;

I took plenty of photos of bugs, thanks to one of the college life models. He brought in several boxes of his perserved insects and arachnids for me to photograph.
I then moved on to moths pretty swiftly, as moths are amazing.
I started with this moth:

I didn’t take the photo I used, so I couldn’t use this vector in my final designs.
These are the three designs I decided on in the end:

For several reasons I didn’t use the third vector, as is, in my display. Firstly, it was far too expensive to get three A2 canvases printed.
Secondly it didn’t FIT.
Instead I decided to create three posters to display beneath my other two canvases, allowing me to incorporate my third moth.
These are as follows;

I still didn’t finish here, though. I developed these even further and ended up with this:

I am rather pleased with these.

I cut out several copies of some of the moths from this;

It was tedious and I almost stabbed myself with scissors several times due to despair.
FINALLY though I finished and I pinned them (in perserved-moth style) to the exhibition board!

Here’s how it looks:

THE END.

ARGH INTERNET

So we’ve moved house now and we still have no internet.
Ross says we’ll hopefully get it back by the weekend, but it keeps changing.
First I was expecting to be back online on the Saturday that just passed, then that became thursday, then that became another fortnight and now it’s this weekend, so I don’t hold out much hope. :(

I did a vector of a butterfly, and I photoshopped some bugs to look like Pokémon. Check out my gallery for the full images~
